The AFRD Year of Youth Summer Cadet Program is a six-week paid internship designed for high school students and recent graduates ages 16-18. Successful participants earn a direct pathway to a job offer with AFRD upon completion.

This program immerses cadets in the world of AFRD Firefighter-EMTs through hands-on training, coursework, interactive lectures, and mentorship from experienced AFRD personnel and special guests.

Cadets gain practical firefighting and EMS skills by working daily with gear, tools, and equipment. The curriculum also includes fire station visits, ride-along opportunities, and CPR and first aid certification.
