Commending an Officer

Any person who wishes to commend an officer or employee of the Department may do so by contacting the Office of the Fire Chief, the Office of Professional Standards, a supervisor at any worksite in the Department or by email. Please provide as much information as possible about the officer as well as the reason he or she should be commended. In addition, please provide your name and contact information in order to contact you if necessary (all information will be kept confidential).

OPS Function 

The section chief of the Office of Professional Standards acts on behalf of the fire chief by coordinating and monitoring the receipt of complaints, complaint investigations, and the imposition of discipline throughout the department. The OPS section chief makes recommendations to the fire chief concerning modifications to procedures or training that could affect discipline.

The Fire Department Advocate serves as a mediator to seek a positive resolution of supervisory/employee and employer/employee conflicts; in addition to resolving labor relations issues. This position also evaluates EEOC charges and prepares the fire department's defense against these types of complaints. In addition, the advocate receives discipline reports and presents cases before the Civil Service Board in disciplinary appeal hearings. Planning major programmatic advances designed to encourage professional conduct by the Fire Department employees is essential to the overall benefit of both the employee and the department.

A member assigned to the section chief of OPS to conduct unbiased investigations of work rule violations. An OPS Investigator acts on behalf of the Fire Chief while conducting an investigation or parts of an investigation.
