Atlanta Fire Rescue Department's Fire Safety Instructor, D. Warren recently visited Drew Charter School to provide students with an engaging and educational presentation focused on the importance of fire and emergency safety.

During the visit, students learned valuable lessons about how to prevent fires, what to do in the event of an emergency, and why it is important to have a family emergency plan. Atlanta Fire Rescue personnel also taught students proper procedures to follow during weather emergencies, helping them understand how to stay calm, seek appropriate shelter, and follow the directions of trusted adults and emergency personnel.

Students also learned the importance of knowing how to call 911, recognizing the sound of a smoke alarm, and practicing a safe way to exit a building during a fire.

The presentation gave students an opportunity to interact with firefighters, ask questions, and learn more about the important work Atlanta Fire Rescue does to keep our communities safe. Through age-appropriate demonstrations and conversations, students were reminded that being prepared can make a difference during an emergency.

One of the most important fire safety takeaways for students was “Get Out, Stay Out.” If a fire occurs, children should leave the building immediately, never go back inside, and tell a trusted adult or call 911 for help.
