CPAT Pre-Test Program

The AFRD utilize the Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) for our physical testing requirement.  This is a pass/fail test based on a maximum total time of 10 minutes and 20 seconds.  You are encouraged to begin conditioning yourself for CPAT right away. It is a rigorous test designed to determine the physical abilities of a person wanting to enter the fire service.

The AFRD offers every candidate the opportunity to participate in a CPAT Pre-Test Program. The Pre-Test Program includes two (2) orientation sessions and two (2) timed practice runs prior to the official CPAT test. If during one of the timed practice runs, a candidate successfully completes the course, that practice will be considered as passing the CPAT test and they WILL NOT have to participate any further. Orientation sessions DO NOT include a timed trial.

Waiver Information

Candidates may choose not to participate in the required pre-test program, orientations, or practice tests but will be required to sign a waiver acknowledging that these opportunities were offered. The waiver will only be provided during the official testing week at the CPAT venue.

The AFRD will recognize CPAT certifications from other agencies/organizations licensed by IAFF/IAFC dated within twelve (12) months of the application date. All CPAT certifications must be submitted by email to afr-recruitment@atlantaga.gov

Candidates that successfully passed CPAT with AFRD, test scores will remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months.
